Job Overview
The Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Engineer position involves designing, deploying, and managing robust DLP solutions aimed at safeguarding sensitive data from unauthorized breaches, leaks, or loss. This professional will configure policies, monitor data flow, analyze security alerts, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and manage DLP solutions spanning endpoints, network, cloud platforms, and email systems.
- Create and maintain policies to detect and prevent unauthorized data transfers, updating these regularly to reduce false alerts and improve protection.
- Monitor alert systems to investigate data leakage incidents, perform root cause analysis, and work in collaboration with IT and security teams to mitigate risks.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on incidents and escalate significant issues to security management.
- Ensure alignment of DLP practices with regulatory mandates such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI-DSS.
- Coordinate with legal, compliance, and risk management departments to enhance data protection procedures.
- Integrate DLP tools with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and automate workflows to improve operational efficiency and response times.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with DLP technologies like Symantec DLP, Microsoft Purview (formerly AIP), Forcepoint, Varonis, McAfee/Trellix DLP, or Digital Guardian.
- In-depth understanding of network, endpoint, and cloud security concepts, including AWS, Azure, and GCP environments.
- Familiarity with encryption methods, regex, data classification, and discovery tools.
- Experience working with SIEM platforms such as Splunk, QRadar, and ArcSight for correlating DLP events.
- Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC DLP, or CEH are advantageous.
