Job description
Role Overview
Command Post QFZ LLC is looking for a skilled Data Governance Consultant for a full-time, on-site position in Doha, Qatar. The role focuses on transforming data governance policies into practical, sustainable business capabilities, specifically utilizing Microsoft Purview and expertise in data lineage, metadata management, and data quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and improve comprehensive data governance frameworks, policies, standards, procedures, and operating models in alignment with organizational goals.
- Assign and manage accountability for Data Owners, Stewards, and Custodians through RACI charts, governance forums, and escalation paths.
- Create and upkeep business glossaries, metadata standards, data domains, Critical Data Elements, and definitions of authoritative data sources.
- Document complete data lineage and flow across various systems including applications, databases, analytics platforms, and third-party connections.
- Implement and manage Microsoft Purview functionalities such as Data Map, scanning, cataloging, classifications, sensitivity labeling, and lineage visualization.
- Collaborate with engineering and application teams to verify automated lineage, identify metadata gaps, and establish ongoing maintenance processes.
- Develop and enforce data quality rules, KPIs, monitoring, root cause investigations, and remediation tracking.
- Support data classification, retention, privacy, security, access control, and lifecycle management working with relevant compliance and legal departments.
- Lead stakeholder workshops and interviews; translate business needs into governance deliverables and communicate progress via dashboards and reports.
- Prepare documentation and evidence for audit and assurance; promote governance adoption through training and coaching.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- At least 5 years' practical exposure in data governance, metadata management, data quality, or similar fields.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview or similar enterprise data catalogs and governance platforms (strongly preferred: Microsoft Purview).
- Proven experience mapping and validating business and technical data lineage, process flows, and documentation.
- In-depth knowledge of data cataloguing, business glossaries, stewardship, critical data elements, classification, and data quality management.
- Experience collaborating with business SMEs, data owners, architects, engineers, analysts, security teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical skills, stakeholder management, workshop facilitation, documentation, and communication capabilities.
- A proactive and collaborative approach translating governance needs into effective operational results.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, Business, Engineering, or relevant discipline.
Desirable Skills & Certifications
- Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK framework, CDMP certification, or relevant Microsoft Azure/Purview certifications.
- Experience with governance, privacy, or metadata tools like Collibra, Informatica, OneTrust, BigID, or Fides.
- Knowledge of privacy regulations and frameworks such as Qatar PDPL, Qatar NIA, QCB, and GDPR.
- Exposure to cloud/hybrid data environments, BI, analytics platforms, privacy engineering, and AI governance concepts.
- Understanding of ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 information security and privacy standards.
Success Metrics
- Trusted Metadata: Business terms, data ownership, and critical data elements are well documented, accessible, and consistently updated.
- Visible Data Lineage: Priority data flows are fully mapped, validated, and clear from source through consumption.
- Embedded Governance: Governance procedures and controls are fully integrated into daily business activities.
