Team Overview

The Enterprise Planning and Implementation group was newly formed to enhance planning, coordination, and execution across WorkSafe, focusing on prioritisation and delivery support. The Data, Analytics and AI team under this group facilitates data-driven decisions by building and maintaining essential data assets. The team works closely with analysts, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to create the foundation for reporting, analytics, and organisational performance. Role Summary

As a Data Engineer, your central responsibility will be designing, developing, and maintaining the data infrastructure crucial for the organisation. Collaborating closely with the Digital Information and Services team, you will ensure robust data pipelines, storage solutions, and platforms that guarantee reliable, secure, and accessible information that supports operational decision-making, reporting, analytics, and enhances data governance and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain data infrastructure encompassing pipelines and storage to ensure reliable, secure, and accessible data.
• Build and optimize ETL/ELT data pipelines for efficient, scalable, and dependable data processing and flow.
• Implement validation, cleansing, reconciliation, and error management to uphold data quality and integrity.
• Oversee data platform performance, reliability, scalability, and operational stability.
• Support data governance practices, security mechanisms, and access controls to safeguard sensitive data and adhere to regulatory standards.

Required Skills and Experience

• Hands-on experience with data storage solutions such as data warehouses or data lakes, including cloud-based infrastructures.
• Proven ability to develop and optimize ETL/ELT workflows enhancing data accessibility, speed, and dependability.
• Knowledge of government data standards, privacy policies, and cloud computing platforms.
• Expertise in data modeling and database administration.
• Strong commitment to public service values and ethical management of data.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
• A degree in computer science or a relevant technical field paired with substantial equivalent experience.
• Preferred experience working with Azure Synapse and PySpark technologies.

Salary and Benefits

The position offers an annual salary range from NZD 103,059 to NZD 135,004, excluding additional KiwiSaver and SSRSS employer contributions. From April 2026, the KiwiSaver employer contribution will increase to 3.5%.

Additional Information

There are four fixed-term roles available until 30 June 2027, based at any WorkSafe office location. Inter-agency secondments are considered with prior manager approval.
