Role Overview

We seek a Data Engineer eager to innovate rather than simply respond to predefined tasks. Our clients operate complex physical systems producing diverse data such as sensor outputs, historian exports, decentralized SharePoint files, handwritten logs, customized finance extracts, and extensive engineering documentation. Your challenge is to transform this raw information into actionable insights for decision-makers.

This position is unique compared to typical data roles; you won’t be part of a large specialist team working through queues. Instead, you will be empowered to create novel tools, workflows, and methodologies that will define our long-term approach. Ideas progress rapidly from conception to client implementation within weeks and have a direct impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Extract meaningful answers from unstructured operational data by organizing, reconciling, and uncovering hidden patterns, treating documents as integral data sources.
• Adopt a scientific mindset by developing, testing, and validating hypotheses, discerning correlations versus causations, and recognizing data noise and trends.
• Integrate AI into analytical processes by identifying automation opportunities, building AI-driven workflows, and validating their performance.
• Develop applications delivering real-time insights to executives and field teams, embedding your analyses into operational workflows.
• Communicate analysis outcomes clearly and succinctly to clients, focusing on business impact and measurable ROI, often collaborating with Engagement Managers and occasionally engaging directly with clients.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates have experience in quantitative fields and practical AI application, whether through professional roles or personal projects. Backgrounds in computer science, engineering, economics, statistics, or sciences are typical. Candidates possess robust experience handling messy, real-world data, expertise in statistical testing and model validation, and the ability to work at scale.

You are self-driven, resourceful, and eager to embrace new technologies independently. Your curiosity extends to understanding the operational aspects of businesses. You will thrive in environments that require innovation over repetition and client interaction over isolation.

Onboarding Expectations

Proficiency with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, semantic modeling, or Git-based workflows at the start is not required; training and support will be provided promptly. We prioritize your judgment, intellectual curiosity, and motivation above early technical proficiency.

Additional Information

This role may not suit you if:

• You require fully cleansed and modeled datasets before starting analysis.
• You prefer no client interaction or limited exposure to business context.
• You are most comfortable with rigid task lists and frequent oversight.

Work Location and Travel: Based in Brisbane or Melbourne, with in-office presence expected five days weekly. Remote arrangements considered for exceptional candidates outside these cities. Occasional travel to client sites including regional and industrial locations is required.

Compensation and Employment: The role offers a full-time permanent position with an annual salary range of 110000 to 130000 AUD plus superannuation, commensurate with experience.
