Overview

Join Microsoft as a Data Center Technician (DCT) stationed at our Canberra facility, where you will be responsible for setting up, deploying, and maintaining hardware within our data center environment. Your role involves carrying out troubleshooting and diagnostics, performing hardware decommissions for straightforward upgrades or refreshes following documented procedures, and supporting the core infrastructure that powers Microsoft's widely used services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostics and troubleshoot hardware issues in accordance with established protocols, efficiently pinpointing faults and replacing components to minimize disruption.
  • Verify post-installation quality, ensuring grounding, labeling, staging, and cabling meet safety standards and network design requirements.
  • Decommission hardware components as required for routine upgrades or refreshes using standard operating procedures and limited supervision.
  • Communicate and escalate incidents effectively to data center management, technician leads, and engineering experts.
  • Assist colleagues by sharing expertise to complete complex tasks and provide guidance as needed.
  • Undertake role-related training and gain hands-on experience by observing senior technicians.
  • Contribute positively to team dynamics by sharing information, participating in meetings, and monitoring ongoing work status.
  • Demonstrate ownership and responsibility for service quality and user experience within the data center environment, upholding Microsoft's values.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma, GED, TAFE qualification or equivalent are required, coupled with fundamental computer hardware knowledge and at least one year of industry experience supporting IT equipment or related technologies.
  • Must be able to successfully complete Microsoft’s Cloud background check upon hiring and every two years thereafter.
  • Australian citizenship verification is mandatory, including a valid Australian passport to meet government security screening standards.
  • Potential requirement to undergo enhanced security clearance (NV1/2, PV) by the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years' experience in IT hardware support or associated technology fields.
  • Professional certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, or Basic Structure Cabling are advantageous.
