Job description
Overview
As a Data Center Inventory and Asset Technician (DIAT) at Microsoft, you will be responsible for conducting cycle audits, managing delivery processes, coordinating security escorts for external vendors, and keeping detailed records of all inbound and outbound shipments as directed by management. Your role will include initiating warranty claims and handling returns for faulty equipment, offering you valuable exposure to inventory control, warranty management, and secure data device destruction to advance your professional growth.
Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team powers key cloud services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. You will play an important role in supporting the infrastructure for these services, part of a worldwide network of over 200 data centers supporting more than a billion users and 20 million businesses. Responsibilities
- Execute assigned tasks and escalate issues during peak workloads or special situations with guidance from experienced colleagues.
- Collaborate with suppliers to initiate and process warranty claims, including packaging and shipment of returned equipment per Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Gain proficiency in stock control and inventory management procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation for deliveries and inventory movements.
- Learn and adhere to Microsoft supplier contract guidelines while focusing on customer satisfaction.
- Conduct cycle audits and correct inventory data to ensure compliance with control standards.
- Assist in reconciling inventory discrepancies and generating reports.
- Oversee physical tracking and staging of inventory accurately.
- Under supervision, perform secure destruction of data bearing devices in line with SLAs and company policies.
- Follow all security protocols and data management policies strictly.
- Demonstrate Microsoft’s core values and cultural principles in daily work.
Qualifications
- High school diploma plus relevant experience or internship in inventory, retail, warehouse management, or similar field; or equivalent experience.
- Ability to successfully complete Microsoft and government-required security background checks, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check at hire and biennially.
Preferred Qualifications
- Over one year of experience in warehouse or supply chain roles within an IT environment or logistics field.
- Experience operating heavy-load equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or chassis lifts in a large corporate setting.
