About the Role
We are actively seeking a seasoned Data Architect to join a leading Australian organization crucial to the nation's payment infrastructure. Located in Sydney CBD with hybrid working arrangements, this permanent position offers a salary range of $170,000 to $190,000 plus superannuation. The company is transitioning from a decades-old bulk payment system towards a cutting-edge real-time payments platform, aiming to support advanced analytics, AI-driven insights, and innovative data products. This is an opportunity to influence a platform still in formative stages, rather than maintaining legacy systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and direct data architecture strategies across multifaceted projects, guiding from initial conceptualization through to physical implementation.
- Develop and enhance the AWS and Snowflake data platforms to robustly support advanced analytics and AI functionalities.
- Implement data standards and governance frameworks ensuring consistent security, privacy, and quality across data assets.
- Act as the go-to technical authority, advising on architectural patterns, platform selection, and trade-off analyses with long-term implications.
- Translate complex and ambiguous business requirements into clear technical solutions consumable by engineering teams.
- Bridge business and technology stakeholders by simplifying complex data concepts for non-technical audiences.
Candidate Requirements
- Approximately seven or more years’ experience in data architecture, ideally within payments, banking, or financial service sectors.
- Proven expertise designing enterprise data platforms on AWS and Snowflake, beyond just usage of existing systems.
- Strong skills in data modelling, solution design, and transforming unclear briefs into coherent architectures.
- Proficiency with SQL, ETL pipelines, CI/CD processes pertinent to modern data stacks; familiarity with Power BI and machine learning analytics is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate effectively with both engineering teams and executive leadership.
- Residency in Sydney with the ability to work onsite a few days weekly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications in data architecture or data management.
- Experience managing large-scale migration projects requiring fundamental data model changes during active service deployment.
- Hands-on involvement in preparing data platforms for AI workloads.
