Job description
About the Role and Team
At Lyft, our mission is to serve and connect by fostering an inclusive environment that empowers every team member to thrive. The People Analytics team plays a crucial role in this vision by transforming employee data into trustworthy insights that guide HR Business Partners, talent leaders, and executives in making informed decisions.
This position is part of an ongoing Business Intelligence evolution. Having recently switched to ThoughtSpot as our central analytics tool, the team is redefining self-service analytics for People operations. This includes harnessing ThoughtSpot's AI capabilities for proactive insights, natural language queries, and minimizing delays between questions and answers within people data.
Based in Toronto, the Data Analyst will report to the Senior Manager of People Analytics and become the main liaison for incoming data requests across the People organization. Responsibilities will range from managing quick ad-hoc data pulls to crafting comprehensive ThoughtSpot dashboards.
This is a pivotal time to join as we finalize transitioning from Tableau to ThoughtSpot, allowing significant influence on reporting structures and pioneering AI-driven analytics features like natural language search, AI-generated insights, and anomaly detections tailored to workforce data. This role demands a motivated self-starter comfortable with SQL and presenting complex findings to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary contact to assess, prioritize, and fulfill data requests from across the People department, ensuring expectations are clear and deliverables meet quality standards.
- Develop and upkeep ThoughtSpot dashboards and liveboards for various audiences including recruiters, People team members, HR Business Partners, managers, and executives.
- Investigate and implement ThoughtSpot's AI-powered features—such as Spotter and AI Highlights—to proactively provide insights to stakeholders even before explicit questions are posed.
- Manage and execute survey programs using Qualtrics, from design through distribution to closure, converting survey results into accessible dashboards and customized analyses that support People team strategies.
- Collaborate with Talent and People leadership to define KPIs and help narrate impactful data stories.
- Clearly communicate analytical findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences, ranging from detailed SQL discussions to executive-level summaries.
- Partner with systems and operations teams to enhance upstream data quality for improved downstream analysis.
- Quickly combine data from multiple sources to address specific analytical questions with accuracy.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- At least four years of experience in data or business analytics roles.
- Minimum of three years working extensively with SQL, comfortable querying complex and multi-source datasets.
- Hands-on experience with ThoughtSpot or a similar modern BI platform, along with a passion for AI-enabled analytics and curiosity about its application in HR data.
- Working knowledge of Workday or equivalent Human Capital Management systems, including an understanding of business processes and data models beyond basic reporting.
- Familiarity with Greenhouse or similar Applicant Tracking Systems is preferred.
- Experience with Qualtrics or comparable survey tools, including administration and the ability to convert raw survey data into polished, stakeholder-ready insight.
- Proven ability to design and maintain analytical models relied upon by others.
- Understanding of the complexities surrounding People and recruiting data such as organizational structures, headcount definitions, privacy standards, and typical data pitfalls.
Benefits and Additional Information
- Comprehensive health and dental insurance options, life insurance, and disability coverage.
- Mental health support programs.
- Family building benefits.
- Childcare and pet care benefits.
- Access to a Lyft-funded Health Care Savings Account.
- Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with employer matching contributions.
- A flexible paid time off policy for salaried employees, allowing ample time off with managerial approval, supplemented by statutory holidays. Hourly workers receive 15 paid days off plus an additional day per year of service.
- Generous paid parental leave of 18 weeks, available to biological, adoptive, and foster parents, designed to complement provincial supports.
- Subsidized commuter benefits and company-provided Lyft ride credits.
Work Arrangement and Inclusion
This role operates on a hybrid in-office schedule in Toronto, requiring presence at least three days weekly (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday) to support team collaboration and company culture. Lyft also offers up to four weeks per year of flexible remote work.
Lyft emphasizes an inclusive workplace free from discrimination or harassment based on legally protected categories. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request during hiring processes.
Compensation
The estimated salary range for this position in Toronto is CAD 90,000 to CAD 112,500 annually, excluding potential equity, bonuses, or additional benefits. Actual pay depends on experience, skills, and location.
