Role Overview

We are seeking a driven and technically proficient Cyber Security Officer to join our Digital Services team. This individual will report directly to the Cyber Operations Manager and will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our cybersecurity infrastructure, protecting the systems, data, and digital services used by over 2,000 personnel within the Board.

The position involves the oversight and enhancement of various security technologies including anti-virus measures, firewall management, internet filtering solutions, vulnerability scanning, endpoint security, and secure remote access systems. Additional responsibilities include supporting cyber incident responses, conducting security audits, ensuring compliance, and implementing new security projects.

Collaboration with colleagues within Digital Services and the broader NHS Scotland network is vital to develop security policies, offer technical expertise, and help maintain resilient, secure systems conforming to recognized industry standards.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Extensive experience working in Cyber Security or IT environments.
• A degree in a cyber security-related discipline.
• Deep understanding of modern cyber security technologies, tools, and best practices.
• Familiarity implementing and sustaining frameworks and standards such as ISO27001, NCSC, NIST, CIS, and PCI-DSS.
• Knowledge of vulnerability management, penetration testing, and cyber security governance methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with an aptitude for balancing urgent operational priorities with longer-term strategic goals.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining technical details to diverse audiences.
• A collaborative working style and aptitude for building positive team relationships.
• A proactive attitude toward ongoing professional development and staying abreast of emerging cyber threats and trends in the industry.
