Position Overview
Western Development Museum (WDM) in Saskatoon is seeking a Custodian to uphold the cleanliness and maintenance standards across its facilities, galleries, exhibits, and grounds. This role reports to the Facility & Grounds Supervisor and supports the museum's commitment to public trust through daily care of its spaces.
Primary Duties
- Conduct routine cleaning and custodial tasks in all areas, including public spaces, museum galleries, exhibits, rental halls, restrooms, storage areas, and outdoor grounds.
- Safeguard the museum's collection, ensuring proper handling and cleaning to maintain artifact safety and integrity.
- Document and report cleaning activities, maintenance issues, and any safety concerns promptly.
- Respond swiftly to urgent cleaning needs as they arise.
- Maintain and monitor supply inventory; request necessary cleaning products and restroom items timely.
- Execute opening and closing procedures for the museum according to schedule.
- Collaborate with supervisory and technical staff to plan and prioritize tasks efficiently to meet operational demands.
- Perform general office duties and other assignments as required.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent education.
- Experience in cleaning or janitorial services is necessary; prior work in a museum or gallery setting is advantageous.
- Possession or capability to obtain Class 5 Driver's License, forklift, and aerial work platform certifications is beneficial.
- Strong communication abilities, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Experience collaborating with volunteers and engaging with the public is a plus.
- Competency with computers, particularly familiarity with Office 365 and Site Docs, is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Employment Conditions
- The role is onsite at WDM Saskatoon.
- Work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Hourly wage ranges from $17.06 to $19.78.
- Successful candidates must provide a criminal record check.
