Job description
Job Summary
This role entails maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in assigned areas of a food production environment to support food safety and quality standards. The custodian is responsible for keeping the workspace free of debris, cleaning equipment and tools, and ensuring a sanitized production area.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness of the production room, including sweeping up food waste from floors and equipment.
- Empty red trash barrels and transport trash and cardboard to compactors outside the processing area.
- Dispose of food waste in the designated food waste lift.
- Clean and sanitize production lines during and between product runs and allergen changeovers.
- Operate the dishwasher and assist production/QA teams with tank drainage and cleaning.
- Clean farm waste rooms and assist with outdoor trash removal and shoveling tasks as assigned.
- Clean equipment after maintenance repairs and perform various cleaning duties related to production rooms and equipment.
- Maintain outside break areas and food waste rooms in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Manage janitor supply inventory, report to QA, restock GMP supplies, and organize the janitor closet.
- Sort and remove trash from cardboard in the warehouse, and safely dispose of food product waste.
- Sweep, mop, scrub floors, sanitize floor drains, and pick up empty pallets using a pallet jack.
- Carry out additional cleaning projects and assignments including restrooms, breakrooms, conference rooms, and office spaces.
- Collect and correctly dispose of trash and recycling.
- Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and maintain safety standards to minimize injuries and workers’ compensation claims.
- Perform food safety-related duties applicable to the custodian position and any other assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- No prior experience necessary; training will be provided.
- Ability to work in cool, wet environments with temperatures between 35 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Capability to stand and walk for extended periods (8+ hours daily).
- Physical strength to lift up to 50 pounds consistently.
- Skill to properly document completed work activities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting.
- Committed to working safely and maintaining a safe work environment.
