Job description
Role Overview
The Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Operations Services Department within the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and the overall pleasant appearance of school properties by carrying out janitorial and maintenance tasks efficiently, safely, and professionally according to the department's standards and policies. This role reports directly to the Caretaker and receives guidance from the Building Management Supervisor.
Employment Terms
This position is governed by the NSUPE collective agreement. For part-time roles, the Centre may adjust work hours to enable employees to hold multiple part-time jobs concurrently. Employment is contingent upon passing a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry screenings.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of High School Diploma or an equivalent qualification such as a GED.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs to carry out the full range of cleaning and janitorial duties.
- Basic proficiency in computer skills.
- Willingness to work various shifts including day, evening, and night schedules.
- Prior janitorial experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
