CSSD Technician

About the Role

The Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) Technician plays a crucial role in sterilization support by preparing and processing medical instruments and equipment in accordance with regulatory requirements and departmental protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and carry out cleaning and sterilization tasks efficiently and correctly.
• Ensure decontamination and sterilization meet prescribed standards by monitoring processes regularly.
• Decontaminate medical devices using mechanical and manual techniques.
• Inspect devices and perform function testing, reporting any discrepancies to supervisors promptly.
• Operate various sterilization equipment including washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers.
• Conduct validation testing on sterilization processes.
• Lubricate medical instruments and repair or separate those that are malfunctioning.
• Assemble and package devices properly for sterilization cycles.
• Prepare consumables such as gauze and cotton for sterilization.
• Load and unload sterilization materials, arranging them in sterile storage areas.
• Receive, verify, and segregate items processed through CSSD.
• Distribute sterilized items to relevant departments ensuring timely supply.
• Manage materials planning in coordination with the department in-charge.
• Maintain department cleanliness and uphold hygiene standards.
• Collect and transport used medical devices from user areas to CSSD.
• Maintain accurate records and logs with proper signatures.
• Keep registers as per the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) quality indicators.
• Follow Health & Safety protocols, including personal hygiene and infection control regulations.
• Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures for CSSD processes.
• Initiate recall procedures when necessary.
• Engage with information technology systems used in sterile services.
• Provide assistance and support to fellow technicians as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Hospital Sterilization Technology or CSSD Technician Diploma.
• At least five years of relevant work experience in sterilization processes.

Skills and Competencies

• Proficient knowledge in cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, sterile storage, and inventory management.
• Good team collaboration and people management skills.
• Positive attitude towards work and workplace relations.
• Effective communication abilities in English and Kannada languages.
• Strong listening skills, empathy, and capacity to provide appropriate advice.
