Critical Environment Technician

Role Overview

Join Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team as a Critical Environment Technician (CET), where you will play a vital role in maintaining the essential infrastructure that supports our global datacenters. Your tasks will include monitoring and inspecting critical equipment, completing maintenance activities, assisting with troubleshooting, enforcing all safety and security protocols, and creating operational procedures.

CO+I powers Microsoft's cloud services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure by managing over 200 datacenters across 32 countries and servicing more than one billion customers worldwide. The team emphasizes not only operational excellence but also personal and professional growth through various training programs and certifications. Sustainability and optimization are key focuses in our datacenter design and operations, supporting Microsoft's mission to empower every individual and organization globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out basic assigned duties including rounds, building condition observation, and measurement recording with varying supervision.
• Monitor and inspect critical facility environment systems (HVAC, mechanical etc.) for irregularities under supervision.
• Learn to operate facility systems and understand associated risks to perform tasks safely and professionally.
• Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to log assets and process maintenance orders.
• Support emergency monitoring and responses under supervision according to defined operating procedures.
• Conduct different types of maintenance (planned, predictive, corrective) following established procedures.
• Document maintenance and troubleshooting findings and escalate issues appropriately.
• Provide authorized escort to third-party contractors and service providers on site.
• Adhere strictly to safety, security, and business process guidelines to ensure compliance with local and Microsoft standards.
• Demonstrate and uphold Microsoft’s values and inclusive culture.

Qualifications

• Required: Diploma or graduation with minimum 2 years of experience in mission-critical services or similar environments such as data centers, refineries, hospitals, or manufacturing.
• Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of formal education.

Security Requirements

• Must pass Microsoft's Cloud background check initially and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduation plus 2 years of relevant mission-critical services experience.
• OR Associate's degree / technical trade certification with 3+ years of mission-critical environment experience.
• Equivalent experience also considered.
