Cover Supervisor with Pastoral Support

Role Overview

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join our education team, contributing pastoral support. This full-time role involves a 37-hour working week during term time plus an additional week. The primary focus is to maintain a positive and productive classroom environment when the regular teacher is unavailable. You will oversee students, keeping them engaged and focused on their assignments while ensuring a respectful and conducive learning atmosphere. This position suits individuals passionate about working with children, including those with special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee classroom activities during teacher absences.
• Ensure adherence to school rules and discipline amongst students.
• Provide clear communication to students, offering guidance and support.
• Explain assigned work and assist pupils with their understanding.
• Deliver tutoring to students who require extra help.
• Create an inclusive environment welcoming students with autism and other special needs.
• Encourage students’ personal growth and academic development through mentoring.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff to apply and modify lesson plans as needed.
• Use creative writing methods to engage and inspire students.
• Offer assistance to the behaviour management team as required.
• Address pastoral care responsibilities directed by senior leadership.

Required Experience and Skills

• Demonstrated experience working with children in an educational context.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in tutoring or mentoring, with emphasis on supporting students with special educational needs.
• Familiarity or experience working with autistic individuals is highly valued.
• Creative teaching strategies to maintain student interest and participation.
• Ability to tailor teaching approaches to accommodate varied learning needs.
