Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Coronial Case Manager to join our team in Wellington, working closely with a resident coroner. This role involves managing all matters referred to the coroner within the Wellington region, with occasional assistance to other coroners and regions as required. It offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to leverage your administrative expertise and interpersonal skills while contributing to delivering a high-quality coronial service to the people of New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collecting and organizing all inquiry-related information and reports, both physical and digital, to concisely present to the coroner.
  • Managing large volumes of electronic case files alongside maintaining physical files as necessary.
  • Ensuring the coronial management system (electronic database) remains current, comprehensive, and accurate.
  • Communicating and coordinating with stakeholders and government agencies, including police and interested parties.
  • Assisting in monitoring and reporting on the activities of the coroner's court.
  • Supporting and facilitating coroners in conducting preliminary hearings and inquests.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Ability to maintain composure and work efficiently under stressful and sensitive conditions.
  • Capacity to handle and view graphic coronial material appropriately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Highly organized with excellent prioritization and multitasking skills.
  • Accurate record-keeping complemented by proficient typing and data entry abilities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Capability to work independently as well as under guidance.
  • Relevant prior experience in similar administrative or case management roles is advantageous.

This role demands empathy, strong relationship management, and effective case management skills to support coroners and interact sensitively with bereaved families from diverse backgrounds. You will be expected to foster and maintain excellent relationships both internally and externally.

Salary Details

Annual salary ranges from $67,066 to $85,567, dependent on skills and experience.
