Role Overview
The Cook position is a full-time onsite role based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Responsibilities include preparing and cooking menu items according to set recipes and portion guidelines, ensuring top quality, taste, and plating. Daily duties involve ingredient preparation, safe use of kitchen equipment, maintaining cleanliness and organization of the workspace, while adhering strictly to food safety and sanitation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook dishes as per established recipes and portion controls.
- Operate kitchen appliances safely and efficiently.
- Ensure a clean and organized workstation.
- Adhere to food safety protocols and hygiene regulations.
- Support the kitchen team in managing orders efficiently, especially during peak periods.
- Help reduce food waste through careful preparation and storage.
- Assist in inventory checks and receiving supplies.
- Provide suggestions to improve kitchen operations and menu offerings.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Previous experience as a cook or line cook in a restaurant or similar environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with basic cooking techniques, ingredient preparation, and kitchen equipment usage.
- Sound knowledge of food safety standards, hygiene practices, and proper storage methods.
- Ability to multitask effectively under pressure while paying attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house staff respectfully.
- Dependability, punctuality, and flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Physical stamina to stand for prolonged periods, lift moderate weights, and work within a warm busy kitchen setting.
- Culinary education or certification is an advantage but not mandatory.
