Overview

Christchurch City Council invites applications for the role of Contract Supervisor within the Resource Recovery team. This key position is charged with overseeing the kerbside collection services throughout Christchurch and Banks Peninsula, ensuring efficient service delivery aligned with Council standards.

Team Responsibilities

The Resource Recovery team champions the management and implementation of waste management contracts and projects in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula. The team’s efforts are crucial in providing dependable, efficient services to the community while advancing the Council's goals for resource recovery and waste reduction.

Role Focus and Duties

This role centers on managing day-to-day operations of the kerbside collection contract to guarantee delivery meets agreed service levels and key performance indicators. The Contract Supervisor is expected to foster and sustain productive relationships, monitor and audit contractor performance, advise stakeholders technically and practically, manage contractual expenditures, and collaboratively seek improvements to service quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and nurture strong partnerships with contractors, internal teams, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee contractor performance, ensuring compliance with contractual and operational standards.
  • Provide expert guidance to internal and external parties regarding contract execution.
  • Control contract spending to secure optimal value for the Council.
  • Conduct regular audits focusing on quality, compliance, and contractor performance, addressing identified concerns.
  • Identify potential service enhancements and collaborate with contractors to implement improvements.

Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience in contract supervision, asset or waste management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in waste or environmental services or similar operational environments.
  • Strong background in contract management, with skills in monitoring, auditing, and compliance.
  • Proficient in relationship management and communication with diverse groups including contractors and customers.
  • Competent in analytical problem-solving to investigate and resolve operational issues effectively.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business systems pertinent to contract and performance management.

Salary Range: NZD 96,465 to 107,183 annually for a 40-hour week, dependent on candidate qualifications and organizational standards.
