Job description
Role Overview
The Contract Advisor plays a crucial role by offering expert contractual and commercial guidance throughout the lifecycle of contracts within the organization. This involves supporting all stages from defining requirements and scopes of work to contract execution, administration, amendments, claims, renewal, and eventual closure.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise contract proponents professionally on contractual and commercial matters across the entire contract lifecycle.
- Assist in developing contract requirements, scopes of work, commercial terms, and preparing contract documents.
- Oversee review and coordination of contracts and amendments, ensuring they pass through internal evaluation, approval, and execution efficiently.
- Manage assigned contracts by monitoring contractor compliance, performance, deliverables, milestones, and contractual commitments.
- Handle coordination of contract modifications including amendments, extensions, renewals, and terminations.
- Evaluate proposals, bids, pricing models and contractual terms, providing expert recommendations.
- Engage in bid evaluations, qualification of bidders, conduct contract negotiations, and prepare negotiation strategies and counteroffers.
Mandatory Qualifications and Expertise
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in disciplines such as Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, Law, Finance, Supply Chain Management, MIS, or related fields.
- Have at least 12 years of pertinent experience, ideally within the petroleum, oil & gas, energy sectors, or related industries.
- Experience in contract administration, development, commercial management, procurement, or similar operational domains.
- Minimum 3 years handling contracting, accounting, auditing, commercial analysis, or comparable responsibilities with increasing accountability.
- In-depth knowledge of contract lifecycle management encompassing development, execution, administration, amendments, renewals, claims, and closure.
- Familiarity with varied contract types including lump-sum, unit-price, and time-and-materials agreements.
- Understanding corporate contracting policies, procurement procedures, governance standards, and internal control frameworks.
- Proven track record in contract performance monitoring, compliance oversight, change control, and contract administration.
- Experienced in bid evaluation, contractor negotiations, claims handling, commercial analysis, and contract modifications.
- Competent in preparing/reviewing scopes of work, contract documents, commercial reports, and management presentations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with knowledge of ERP or business systems related to contract management and reporting.
- Excellent analytical aptitude and problem-solving capabilities to assess proposals, pricing strategies, risks, and commercial exposures.
- Strong fluency in English for both written and verbal communication.
- Adept at communicating confidently with senior executives, specialists, contractors, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Highly organized with effective time management skills to handle multiple contracts and competing priorities concurrently.
