Role Summary

This position supports Elm’s Corporate Venture Capital initiatives by identifying, assessing, and managing strategic startup investment opportunities tied to the company’s business aims and innovation priorities. The consultant is accountable for investment analysis, thorough due diligence, venture assessment, portfolio oversight assistance, stakeholder collaboration, and gathering market intelligence to enhance strategic and financial outcomes from startup investments and innovation ecosystems.

Main Responsibilities

  • Craft investment theses addressing markets, technologies, and sectors critical to Elm's strategy.
  • Conduct detailed market and industry research to spot emerging opportunities and innovation trends.
  • Evaluate technology, market, and competitive settings to aid informed investment choices.
  • Provide actionable insights directing investment approaches and targeting.
  • Identify and evaluate startup and venture investment opportunities fitting Elm's objectives.
  • Perform initial screening and evaluation on prospective investment targets.
  • Analyze business models, products, market potential, and growth trajectories.
  • Assist in prioritizing investments based on strategic and commercial merits.
  • Develop investment cases, including business analyses and supporting documentation for review and approval.
  • Build financial models, define investment assumptions, and conduct strategic evaluations.
  • Facilitate investment decisions with structured recommendations.
  • Ensure consistent documentation and evaluation of investment opportunities.
  • Coordinate commercial, operational, financial, and technical due diligence processes.
  • Evaluate risks, opportunities, dependencies, and growth prospects of investment options.
  • Collaborate with internal and external parties to collect necessary assessment information.
  • Support negotiation efforts via thorough due diligence findings and advice.
  • Work alongside Engineering teams throughout product development to ensure accurate design translation into final products.
  • Understand and communicate design-to-development workflows effectively to technical teams.
  • Stay informed on AI-driven design tools and apply suitable technologies to improve workflows and outcomes.
  • Explore innovative strategies to enhance user experience, design efficiency, and product quality.
  • Help manage portfolio company relationships to maximize strategic and financial benefits.
  • Monitor portfolio company progress, achievements, and business growth.
  • Coordinate engagement activities bridging portfolio companies and internal business units.
  • Assist in identifying synergies to boost collaboration and value creation.
  • Collaborate with various business units to ensure investment alignment before and after execution.
  • Facilitate communication among startups, portfolio companies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Promote and assist in building strong strategic relationships within the startup ecosystem.
  • Support positioning Elm as a preferred partner within entrepreneurial and innovation communities.
  • Prepare reports on performance, investment updates, and portfolio summaries for management and committees.
  • Track portfolio metrics and investment results continuously.
  • Monitor post-investment progress, highlighting risks, opportunities and necessary improvements.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in portfolio management and reporting standards.
  • Adhere strictly to departmental policies, standard operating procedures, and safety and environmental controls.
  • Follow all information security protocols ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.

Educational & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, IT, Entrepreneurship, or related field.
  • Between 4 to 6 years of experience in Venture Capital, Corporate Venture Capital, Investment Analysis, Strategy, Corporate Development, Innovation, or related areas.
