Construction Worker - General Operative Band 3

About the Role

The Office of Public Works (OPW) is seeking to appoint a General Operative Band 3 at St Enda’s Park & Pearse Museum located in Rathfarnham, Dublin 16. This position involves supporting restoration, conservation, landscaping, and maintenance tasks across the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist skilled tradespeople including stonemasons, carpenters, electricians, and gardeners in tasks like laying paths, mixing materials, scaffolding, painting, and planting.
• Operate vehicles and machinery such as ride-on and pedestrian lawn mowers, tractors, small hydraulic excavators, and dumpers as assigned.
• Perform general landscape maintenance such as grass cutting, strimming, weeding, hedge trimming, and graffiti removal from building facades.
• Use light equipment including leaf blowers, sprayers, hedge trimmers, and operate chainsaws and access platforms (training provided).
• Support garden and floral feature implementation, clear exhibitions, and move furniture as required.
• Conduct site inspections and security duties including gate operation, grounds patrol, event security, monitoring visitor activity, and reporting issues.
• Maintain cleanliness of monuments, walkways, buildings, and facilities including visitor centers, offices, canteen areas, windows, gutters, and toilets as directed.
• Manage litter control through hand-picking, automated collection, bin emptying, and recycling operations.
• Adhere strictly to health and safety standards ensuring a clean, tidy, and safe work environment for staff and visitors.

Candidate Requirements

• Possess a full, clean, and current Irish manual driving licence category B & W; restricted licences allowing only automatic transmission vehicles are not accepted.
• Hold a current Safe Pass card or have proof of successful completion of the Safe Pass course before the application deadline.
• Non-EEA nationals must provide a valid employment permit or relevant visa (e.g., Stamp 41, Stamp 5, or 50 TEU visa).
• Eligible candidates must be citizens of the EEA, UK, Switzerland, or non-EEA citizens with appropriate Irish permission to work.
• Preferred qualifications include experience, training or certifications related to general operative duties, and good awareness of health and safety practices.
