About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Construction Estimator to join a reputable and well-established contractor based near Bournemouth/Poole, Dorset. This company delivers diverse building projects across the South of England, including new builds, refurbishments, commercial, education, healthcare, and heritage sectors. The role offers involvement in tenders ranging from minor work to projects valued at up to approximately £10 million. You will be part of an experienced pre-construction team, working closely with senior colleagues in a collaborative environment that promotes professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimating costs and preparing competitive tenders for projects ranging up to circa £10 million.
- Producing detailed construction cost estimates and tender submissions.
- Collaborating with Bid Managers and other Estimators to finalize tender documents.
- Utilizing estimating software, predominantly Causeway, to develop comprehensive estimates.
- Reviewing architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documents for accuracy.
- Visiting sites and client locations to assess project requirements firsthand.
- Generating clear, priced schedules for awarded projects.
- Presenting tender bids for evaluation and adjudication.
- Raising Requests for Information (RFIs) based on tender details for clients and professional teams.
- Managing multiple tender processes simultaneously, ensuring strict adherence to deadlines.
- Collaborating across pre-construction and project delivery teams for successful execution.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Practical experience in construction estimating, preferably within building construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of the construction industry, including SMM7 and NRM methodologies.
- Ability to review and interpret both 2D and 3D architectural drawings.
- Excellent commercial awareness with close attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work well in team settings as well as independently.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a busy tender workload.
- Proactive, dynamic, and solution-oriented mindset.
- Familiarity with Causeway estimating software and project management tools like Microsoft Project is advantageous.
- HNC or higher qualification in construction is preferred but not mandatory.
