Job Role
The Construction Estimator will be entrusted with producing precise, competitive, and financially sound cost projections and tender documents for construction projects. Responsibilities include thorough review of all project documentation, such as drawings, BOQs, subcontractor quotes, material and labor costs, to compile trustworthy pricing details.
This role requires collaboration across commercial, procurement, engineering, project management, and subcontractor teams to ensure pricing proposals are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project expectations.
Key Duties
- Generate comprehensive and precise cost estimates for construction endeavors.
- Elicit and review tender documents, drawings, BOQs, scope, and contract specifications.
- Conduct quantity take-offs with verification from drawings and BOQs.
- Assess project needs to determine required labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Collect, examine, and compare offers from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
- Detail pricing for all project elements including materials, labor, equipment, subcontracted works, preliminaries, overheads, and miscellaneous costs.
- Formulate competitive tender rates that secure profitability and proper cost coverage.
- Identify and document any exclusions, assumptions, qualifications, and contractual risks.
- Compile tender comparison analyses for subcontractor and supplier offers.
- Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors regarding quotations, scope, specifications, and price details.
- Work alongside engineering and project teams to clarify technical and construction approach requirements.
- Contribute to budget and cost plan development for projects.
- Maintain and update cost databases reflecting market rates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Perform value engineering to locate cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Prepare tender summaries and detailed pricing breakdowns for managerial review and approval.
- Ensure timely and accurate tender submissions within deadlines.
- Support negotiation efforts with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers when necessary.
- Keep systematic records of estimates, tenders, quotations, and pricing documentation.
- Assist commercial teams during post-tender activities including negotiations, clarifications, and handover processes.
- Detect potential commercial and contractual risks early in the tender phase.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related areas.
- Between five to eight years of experience in construction estimation and tendering.
- Preferably experienced in UAE or GCC region construction projects.
- Proven expertise in preparing estimates and tenders specifically for building or construction projects.
- Sound understanding of construction materials, methods, labor costs, and subcontract pricing.
- Practical knowledge of quantity take-offs, BOQ analysis, rate evaluation, and cost calculation.
- Familiarity with FIDIC contracts and commercial construction practices is advantageous.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Excel and related estimating or tendering software tools.
- Competent in interpreting technical documents such as drawings and specifications.
