About the Role
Spectrum Care is dedicated to assisting adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to live fulfilling lives. We are seeking a full-time Community Support Worker based at our Ohauiti location in Tauranga. This role involves delivering personalised support based on the unique needs and aspirations of each individual, assisting with community involvement, social engagement, employment or educational pursuits, as well as everyday living activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide assistance and encouragement with personal care routines and daily living skills.
- Support individuals in participating in community activities, socialising, work, or education opportunities.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with the supported person, their families, and work colleagues.
- Help maintain safe boundaries through resilience and calmness in challenging situations.
- Explain and negotiate support strategies clearly to ensure understanding and cooperation.
Candidate Profile and Skills
- Demonstrate empathy towards challenges faced by individuals with disabilities striving for an independent life.
- Possess the energy needed to keep pace with active individuals.
- Exhibit calm and soothing behavior in all circumstances.
- Show resilience to guide individuals in maintaining safety boundaries.
- Communicate clearly with excellent spoken and written English skills.
- Motivate and support personal care and daily living tasks willingly.
Ideal Qualifications and Experience
- Interest in pursuing a Community Support Worker Level Three or higher qualification (support available while working).
- Previous experience with people with disabilities, mental health challenges, or complex behaviours is desirable but not mandatory.
- Reliable, committed, and passionate about working with people.
- Hold a valid full New Zealand driver's licence.
- Pass a New Zealand police vetting process.
- Competent in using computers including Word, internet browsers, and email applications.
Additional Requirements for Non-Residents
- Must meet INZ Level 3 skill standards by having either three or more years of paid care workforce experience at or above the care wage rate, or
- Hold a New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework qualification at level 4 or above for skill level 3 roles, or a diploma for skill level 2 roles.
Compensation and Work Details
- Salary ranges from $23.97 to $29.68 per hour.
- Full-time employment offering 40 hours per week, including all shifts such as day, afternoon, evening, overnight, and weekend work.
