Job description
About the Role
Scale.jobs supports job seekers in countries like the US, Canada, UK, Germany, and Australia by helping them submit applications efficiently using a hybrid AI and human approach. As a profitable startup backed by Techstars '24, we have processed millions of applications. Our strongest growth has come via word-of-mouth referrals, which have increased consistently for over two years without active efforts. This position aims to intentionally build a thriving community that sustains members through difficult periods, ultimately becoming a powerful acquisition channel.
Key Responsibilities
- Select and establish a community platform such as Discord, WhatsApp, Slack, or a subreddit from scratch, then recruit the initial 100 engaged members and foster active conversations.
- Manage recurring community activities including office hours, recruiter AMAs, resume review sessions, offer celebration threads, and weekly job market updates to keep members engaged, especially in early stages.
- Identify and empower roughly 20 highly active users — moderators, alumni with job offers, or helpful members — who can contribute significantly to community growth.
- Create content from member experiences, such as job offer announcements, resume transformations, and detailed interview preparation stories, and share these with the wider audience.
- Oversee the referral process so that members who secure jobs have clear, rewarding ways to bring friends into the community.
- Serve as the point of contact for member feedback, detecting issues before formal support tickets and relaying them to the team.
- Provide data-driven reports on community engagement metrics including active participation, retention rates, referral numbers, and impact on applications and revenue.
Candidate Profile
- Proven history of building communities with demonstrable results such as growth metrics, screenshots, or accessible links showing progress from zero scale.
- Strong belief that community functions as a growth channel and can substantiate its value with measurable data rather than intuition.
- Effective and personable writing style that conveys authenticity rather than corporate tone.
- Comfortable with public visibility as this role involves personal interaction rather than anonymous administration.
- Empathetic towards job seekers who often face anxiety and rejection, able to support them patiently.
- Available to participate in events overlapping US and UK time zones a few evenings weekly.
- Self-motivated and proactive, capable of independently driving community initiatives without explicit direction.
- Bonus but not mandatory: experience with international job hunts or moderating large online communities such as forums, subreddits, or Discord servers.
Benefits
- Complete ownership of community management from the outset, with opportunities for growth in role and responsibilities.
- Stable, profitable business without financial instability concerns.
- Direct access to company founders for immediate feedback and support.
- Allocated budget for community engagement tools, events, rewards, and partnerships.
- Opportunity to work on a product that significantly improves users' lives, enhancing community work.
- Compensation aligned with actual achievements plus performance-based bonuses tied to community growth.
