Community Caretaker

Role Overview

Join Hafod as a Community Caretaker and play a vital role in ensuring our estates are safe, welcoming, and well-maintained places that residents are proud to call home. Working within the Cardiff region and surrounding areas, you will be a visible and dependable presence in the community, actively addressing issues and working closely with residents, colleagues, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough inspections of communal and estate environments to identify problems such as litter, damage, obstructions, fly-tipping, and other concerns, maintaining detailed records including photographs.
• Perform a variety of basic repairs and maintenance tasks, escalating more complex matters to appropriate teams or contractors.
• Collaborate with residents, housing teams, and contractors to resolve issues, follow up on repairs, and uphold high standards of service delivery.
• Manage environmental challenges such as bin store upkeep, graffiti removal, dog fouling, fly-tipping, and waste management, while encouraging recycling and responsible use of shared spaces.
• Oversee communal facilities and contractor activities, supporting estate improvements and identifying residents who may require additional assistance or property adaptations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with property repairs, maintenance, or inspections, including the ability to complete basic maintenance activities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with residents, colleagues, and contractors, even in challenging circumstances.
• A proactive, well-organized approach to work, with the ability to independently prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and escalate issues when necessary.
• Proficiency with IT tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, capable of maintaining clear and accurate documentation.
• A flexible and positive attitude, committed to high standards and delivering a professional, responsive service to residents.

Additional Information and Conditions

• This full-time, field-based position requires independent travel across the Cardiff area; candidates must hold a valid full driving license.
• Some flexibility is necessary to accommodate community needs, including attendance at occasional evening meetings and participation in an on-call support rota.
• No visa sponsorship is available for this role.
• Applicants will undergo pre-employment checks including right to work verification and enhanced DBS clearance, which will be facilitated and funded by Hafod.
