Job description

About Stanford Seed

Stanford Seed extends the innovative business education tradition of Stanford University to entrepreneurs in Africa and Asia, aiming to break the cycle of global poverty by equipping developing economies with thriving enterprises. This initiative is led by the Stanford Graduate School of Business and has been impactful for over a decade.

Role Overview

The Communications & Transformation Network Coordinator serves as a vital link ensuring brand consistency and operational excellence across the Stanford Seed network in Africa. The Coordinator acts as the regional steward for all communications, brand integrity, and network activities, fostering strategic alignment and visibility within the Stanford Seed Transformation Network (STN).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead regional communications by collaborating with global teams to tailor outreach effectively for local entrepreneurs and stakeholders in Africa.
  • Guard the Stanford Seed brand in the region, ensuring voice, tone, logo use, and related elements align with standards and swiftly resolving any misuse.
  • Create and curate a pipeline of regionally relevant content such as participant stories, milestones, and event coverage for newsletters and social media.
  • Manage design requests and coordinate between regional teams and central designers to deliver branded materials, including WhatsApp graphics and event marketing collateral.
  • Support participant recruitment through managing referral efforts within regional chapters.
  • Foster media relations and secure opportunities for visibility, monitoring press mentions and organizing speaking events to enhance brand presence.
  • Coordinate with photographers to produce visual assets while ensuring proper permissions and mitigating legal risks.
  • Work closely with event design teams to create visual environments for immersion weeks and ceremonies, maintaining brand quality and resolving onsite branding issues.
  • Assist in planning and executing events, masterclasses, and sessions by supporting venue logistics and participant communications.
  • Manage promotion and assets for network events, oversee social media channels related to the Transformation Network, and coordinate regional digital outreach.
  • Support data collection efforts such as the Annual Seed Survey and maintain contact databases to enhance participant engagement and impact measurement.
  • Build ongoing relationships with network leaders, staff, and business partners through regular communication and site visits.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Between 3 and 5 years of professional experience in communications, social media, journalism, or supporting entrepreneurship ecosystems such as incubators or accelerators.
  • Proficient in tools like Google Workspace and Slack; familiarity or interest in AI-driven content creation tools (e.g., Claude) and social media management platforms is advantageous.
  • Exemplary accountability with the capacity to independently manage processes from start to finish without needing constant supervision.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills appropriate for upholding Stanford’s brand reputation.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders effectively, including internal teams, network chapters, external partners, and audiences at various events.
  • Adept at balancing multiple responsibilities spanning marketing, operations, data management, and network coordination.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Kenya and flexibility to travel regionally for events.
