Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Commodity Broker to join our team at Freight Investor Services' Singapore office. This mid-level position suits a highly motivated individual passionate about financial markets, who excels in networking and proactively securing new business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent Freight Investor Services (FIS) by delivering market intelligence and analysis to clients.
  • Execute trades through voice broking on clients' behalf at relevant exchanges.
  • Generate liquidity and contribute to price discovery by interacting with exchanges, systemically important entities, multilateral trading facilities, clearinghouses, prime brokers, and proprietary traders.
  • Establish and maintain broker relationships to ensure liquidity when unavailable from primary providers.
  • Strengthen existing client partnerships with frequent communication and monitor daily trading activities.
  • Proactively gather industry insights via trade calls, surveys, events, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Spot and capitalize on emerging business prospects related to market trends, future products, and clients.
  • Prepare daily and weekly market price and direction updates for international desks.
  • Manage client onboarding according to compliance and operational protocols.
  • Evaluate client needs and financial standing regularly to identify opportunities for internal cross-selling.
  • Carry out reasonable duties assigned by the company.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven brokerage experience servicing commercial clients in financial or physical markets.
  • Strong expertise in price risk management is crucial.
  • Essential understanding of CISI regulations and derivatives.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for client visits.
  • Excellent quantitative, presentation, and decision-making skills.
  • Entrepreneurial drive and self-motivation.
  • Knowledge of commodity products is desirable.
  • Exceptional client engagement skills, able to build robust relationships and networks.
  • Preferably holds a degree in economics or a related field.
  • Clear and effective communication with clients and colleagues.
  • Resilience and ability to thrive under pressure.
  • Team-oriented mindset with ability to collaborate across diverse groups.
  • Attention to detail with strong analytical and numeracy proficiency.
  • Advanced IT skills, particularly with Excel.
