About the Role
We are partnering with a leading global organisation in the mission-critical data centre industry to recruit a Senior Controls/BMS Commissioning Manager. This senior role is responsible for overseeing commissioning excellence on complex, large-scale infrastructure projects worldwide. The position offers a competitive salary package including bonus, car allowance, travel expenses, private healthcare, and pension, along with a global scope of work based in Cork, Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate commissioning of control systems across multiple active projects on a global scale.
- Create and apply standardized commissioning strategies covering all stages from planning to handover (Levels 0 to 6).
- Serve as the expert on BMS, BAS, EPMS, PLC, and SCADA control systems.
- Ensure that system designs align with intended operational performance goals.
- Supervise integration between mechanical and electrical systems and equipment.
- Drive planning, scheduling, sequencing, and management of tagging in commissioning processes.
- Facilitate technical validation workshops and plan system completion activities.
- Enforce rigorous safety protocols including Permit to Work (PTW), Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Manage interfaces with vendors and contractors for Owner Furnished Contractor Installed (OFCI) and Contractor Furnished Contractor Installed (CFCI) elements within complex delivery frameworks.
- Prepare and evaluate commissioning documentation, detailed test scripts, and execution procedures.
- Oversee testing activities such as loop checks, point-to-point, functional testing, and commissioning start-up.
- Track punch lists, resolve defects, and implement structured project close-out measures.
- Collaborate with QA/QC teams to ensure quality-driven commissioning and reduce rework instances.
- Utilize data analytics and commissioning tracking systems to support decision-making.
- Identify potential risks related to commissioning execution and system handover, proactively mitigating them.
- Provide leadership and support to commissioning teams and manage underperformance when necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
- A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in commissioning or controls engineering, focusing on complex infrastructure projects.
- Significant familiarity with data centres or mission-critical facilities is highly desirable.
- Industry experience in sectors such as oil & gas, power generation, pharmaceutical, or large-scale infrastructure is advantageous.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing commissioning teams within matrix or multi-stakeholder settings.
- Comprehensive understanding of project delivery processes from planning through commissioning to handover.
- Project management skills or certifications, or equivalent hands-on experience, are valued.
