Commercial Finance Manager

About the Role

Join a prominent industrial distribution and services firm as a Commercial Finance Manager situated within the divisional leadership team in Newcastle, NSW. This position involves direct engagement, working closely with the General Manager to manage pricing strategies, margin, and cost recovery. You'll develop key metrics and dashboards to guide operational decisions and serve as the trusted financial advisor within the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary finance liaison embedded within the division’s leadership team.
• Contribute financial insights directly during divisional leadership meetings to support operational decisions.
• Establish strong relationships with non-financial leaders to clarify performance drivers.
• Investigate margin gains and losses, including identifying issues related to rework, mispricing, or inefficiencies.
• Develop and enhance pricing models factoring in labor and overhead cost recovery.
• Assist the sales team with timely pricing decisions during operations.
• Create performance metrics and leading indicators for mid-month tracking, beyond traditional month-end reports.
• Collaborate with data/BI teams by defining dashboard requirements and benchmarks.
• Convert financial reporting into actionable insights that inform leadership decisions.
• Support divisional budgeting and rolling forecast processes.
• Conduct variance analysis between forecasts and actuals with detailed explanations.
• Ensure divisional plans are grounded in operational realities, avoiding top-down assumptions.
• Provide financial modeling and business case development for capital projects and initiatives.
• Identify opportunities for margin enhancement and cost efficiencies throughout the division.

Candidate Profile

• Preferably holds CA or CPA qualification.
• Exhibits strong communication skills capable of engaging confidently with non-finance stakeholders.
• Has a background in operational or commercial finance with site-based experience rather than purely corporate roles.
• Experience in mining, industrial, or manufacturing sectors is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Is comfortable working predominantly on-site, four or more days per week.
