Role Overview

The AWS Cloud Solutions Architect acts as a senior technical leader, overseeing AWS migration and transformation initiatives. This role ensures the quality and technical soundness of deliverables, directs delivery teams, and resolves complex issues. Collaborating with engineers, project managers, clients, AWS, and external vendors, the architect upholds AWS best practices alongside client security and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead cloud migration projects by tracking progress, scope, and objectives, conducting reviews of migration strategies including rehost, replatform, and refactor approaches.
• Evaluate migration wave cutover, rollback, and hypercare plans to confirm technical readiness for deployment.
• Monitor and mitigate technical risks and issues with delivery teams to ensure smooth execution.
• Review and approve high-level and low-level solution designs, architectural diagrams, and technical standards for compliance and quality.
• Assess deliverables such as landing zones, migration runbooks, test plans, operational handover, and as-built documentation, ensuring they meet requirements and standards.
• Define quality gates, acceptance criteria, and review checklists, tracking findings to resolution.
• Ensure designs conform to the AWS Well-Architected Framework covering security, reliability, performance, cost efficiency, and operational excellence.
• Verify coverage of security and regulatory controls in designs and deliverables.
• Offer architectural guidance and advocate AWS best practices throughout migration and transformation efforts.
• Advise on key architectural decisions including account structure, landing zone setup, networking, hybrid connectivity, identity management, backup strategies, disaster recovery, and tooling selections.
• Mentor engineers and solution leads during design reviews, promote sharing of lessons learned, and reusable architectural patterns.
• Collaborate with project teams, client stakeholders, AWS, and third-party vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical roadblocks.
• Represent technical viewpoints at steering and status meetings, articulating design trade-offs and associated risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Serve as the escalation point for technical conflicts and decisions within supervised projects.
• Support technical governance by documenting decisions, contributing to design review templates, standards, and reference architectures.
• Participate in pre-sales activities with technical input on proposals and solution assessments.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• At least 7 years of experience in cloud architecture, infrastructure, or IT consulting, including a minimum of 4 years focused on AWS platforms.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional credential.
• Proven experience in leading enterprise AWS migration projects and approving solution designs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of AWS services, including compute, storage, databases, networking, identity, and security.
• Understanding of migration methodologies and tooling, including the 7 Rs strategies and landing zone concepts.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD practices sufficient to evaluate their application by project teams.
• Experience managing technical risks and liaising with vendors and client stakeholders effectively.
• Fluent in written and spoken English, capable of delivering clear technical review feedback.
• Proficiency in Arabic language.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Specialty certifications such as Security or Advanced Networking, or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.
• Knowledge of Saudi Arabian regulatory frameworks including NCA ECC/CCC, SAMA CSF, and PDPL.
• Experience reviewing disaster recovery and business continuity architectures.
• Familiarity with core infrastructure services like Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, ADFS, and enterprise databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, and SAP on AWS.
• Exposure to additional cloud platforms such as Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
• Consulting experience serving government, banking, energy, or telecommunications sectors in Saudi Arabia or the GCC region.
