Role Overview

As a Deli Clerk, you will be instrumental in ensuring customers find fresh, hot, ready-to-eat meals daily. This position emphasizes maintaining strict food safety standards to protect customer health. Comprehensive training will be provided to support your success.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere strictly to all company protocols, standards, and policies.
• Greet customers warmly and courteously, delivering excellent customer experiences aligned with Safeway's service programs.
• Manage cash register transactions including payments by cash, cheque, credit card, gift card, and debit.
• Offer customer samples to encourage product trial.
• Prepare hot and cold foods such as sandwiches, chickens, salads, soups, and specialty trays.
• Operate commercial kitchen equipment, including slicers, fryers, and ovens.
• Write and maintain product orders and assist with receiving and rotating stock.
• Ensure product displays and showcases are well stocked and attractively presented.

Candidate Requirements

• No previous experience required; ability to learn rapidly is essential.
• Capable of handling busy, fast-paced work environments.
• Highly motivated and collaborative team player.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong commitment to superior customer service.
• Work safely and responsibly at all times.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends, with availability on Sundays required (Alberta locations only).
• Knowledge of different meat cuts considered an advantage.

Physical Demands

• Regularly lift items up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds at various heights.
• Spend most of the shift standing, reaching, and gripping.
• Frequently use computers and point-of-sale systems.
• Often bend, walk, twist, push, and pull.
• Occasionally exposed to heat and cooking fumes.
