Overview

We are seeking a Cleaner to join Leeds City Council, based primarily at Herd Farm Residential and Activity Centre in Leeds. This permanent, full-time position offers 30 hours weekly (Monday to Friday, 9am-3pm), term-time plus five additional days. The salary is £24,868 pro-rata. The role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for visitors and staff, supporting a variety of outdoor and residential activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards by cleaning various internal and external areas, including toilets, bedrooms, corridors, activity rooms, offices, and grounds.
  • Operate manual and mechanical cleaning equipment efficiently.
  • Handle cleaning materials safely and in compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Conduct high-level cleaning tasks like washing walls and windows and perform deep and special cleaning procedures.
  • Manage laundering and turnaround of all bedding and linen for guest readiness.
  • Dispose of waste responsibly and promote sustainable practices.
  • Monitor cleaning supply inventory and assist with ordering when necessary.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment while working.
  • Complete all relevant health and safety documentation and adhere to operational quality schedules.
  • Carry out basic maintenance and minor repairs as part of daily duties.
  • Work collaboratively within a team and respond to supervisory guidance.
  • Assist customers positively and adapt flexibly to changing task demands or different site requirements.
  • Participate in relevant training and meetings as requested, contributing to the overall ethos and aims of the service.

Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience in cleaning, preferably within commercial or similar settings.
  • Strong attention to detail with an independent and team working mindset.
  • Knowledge of health, hygiene, safety standards, risk awareness, and safe working practices, including appropriate use of protective clothing and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles relating to children and vulnerable adults.
  • Committed to equality, diversity, anti-discrimination, and council values.
  • Flexible approach, willing to work across different locations and activities.
  • Capable of manual handling and physically active tasks in indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to recognize and challenge prejudices or discriminatory behavior.

Additional Information

  • The role operates on term-time hours (39 weeks per year) plus 5 additional days.
  • The position includes enrollment in the West Yorkshire Pension Fund with employer contributions.
