Job description
Position Overview
We are looking for a meticulous Civil Estimator specializing in heavy civil engineering projects such as highways, bridges, tunnels, and large infrastructure. The role involves creating competitive and precise cost estimates by thoroughly understanding construction processes, materials, and pricing.
District Overview
The Eastern Canada District undertakes diverse projects including highways, bridges, mass transit, mining operations, hydroelectric plants, wind power, dams, and industrial construction across Eastern Canada.
Location
The initial work site will be either the downtown Toronto project location or the office in Oakville, Ontario.
Responsibilities
- Examine project plans, specifications, and documents to formulate comprehensive cost estimations.
- Collaborate closely with project leads, engineers, and related personnel to clarify project needs and limits.
- Conduct site inspections to collect information on environmental and logistical constraints.
- Compile detailed quantity take-offs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.
- Build and sustain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive rates.
- Assess subcontractor proposals to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Create and deliver bid proposals to clients and stakeholders.
- Continuously update cost estimates to reflect changing project circumstances.
- Support project budgeting and scheduling activities.
- Engage in post-bid review sessions and project transition meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar discipline.
- Three to five years of experience in civil estimating or related fields.
- Thorough understanding of construction techniques, materials, and cost estimation methodology.
- Good grasp of project scheduling, cost control, specifications, and engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in estimation software, preferably InEight Estimate (HardDollar).
- Strong analytical capabilities and numerical accuracy.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Willingness to travel as needed for assignments.

Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary ranges from $103,000 to $126,425, subject to factors like education, experience, skillset, and location.
