Position Purpose
The role of a Crash Fire Tender (CFT) Operator involves specialized protective duties connected to all aspects of aircraft crash fire and rescue, as well as structural firefighting. The CFT In Charge is responsible for operating firefighting and rescue vehicles and equipment during shifts, maintaining readiness for emergency situations, and leading firefighting crews during response operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough daily inspections, cleanings, and upkeep of CFT vehicles and associated equipment, including communication systems.
- Detect and report any defects or malfunctions promptly to ensure continuous operational readiness.
- Complete vehicle inspection checklists at the start of every shift accurately.
- Report significant mechanical or equipment faults immediately to the supervising authority.
- Maintain high alertness and preparedness among fire crew members under supervision for swift emergency responses.
- Monitor and enforce discipline and readiness standards for the team throughout shifts.
- Organize and conduct regular training to familiarize crew with airfield layouts, operational procedures, and equipment handling to enhance their skills.
- Respond rapidly and effectively to all emergency calls, adhering to established protocols and instructions from supervisory staff.
- Assess incident scenes upon arrival and assist in implementing appropriate firefighting and rescue strategies.
- Lead firefighting and rescue efforts during emergencies, coordinating tactics with supervisors as required.
- Operate the Crash Fire Tender with proficiency under all conditions, including driving and managing all vehicle firefighting systems such as pumps and monitors.
Key Collaborative Teams
Internal: ARFF Supervisor, Airport Operations, Airport Security, Emergency Medical Services, ARFF Crew, Engineering & Maintenance, Health, Safety & Environment teams.
External: Local Fire Services, Airlines, Ground Handling Services, ARFF Equipment Providers, Insurance Agencies, Community Leaders, Civil Aviation Authorities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Educational background: ITI or Diploma in Fire Fighting Technology or an equivalent qualification.
- Mandatory certification from a recognized firefighting academy.
- Professional experience: 2 to 3 years in firefighting, ideally focused on aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) operations.
