Position Overview

The Cashier role at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank in Puttur, Karnataka, is responsible for managing all cash-related transactions and branch operations according to internal and external banking guidelines. The cashier ensures proper documentation and reconciliation of transactions daily, reporting to the Branch Operation Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process all cash transactions accurately and timely to support efficient branch functioning.
  • Manage cash handling functions including receiving and processing cheques, drafts, pay orders and other withdrawal instruments within authorized limits, providing receipts for transactions.
  • Disburse funds against withdrawal requests and collect deposits with proper entries in the system.
  • Collect repayments as per the EMI schedule and maintain related system records.
  • Maintain various registers such as inward/outward, petty cash, and assets, and coordinate requisition forms with the Regional Head Office.
  • Perform daily cash tallying aligning with transaction records, producing an end-of-day branch report.
  • Oversee cash management and vault operations alongside the operations officer responsibly.
  • Engage with customers during cash transactions, understand their needs, identify cross-selling opportunities, and inform them about new bank products and services.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing queries swiftly and escalating grievances appropriately.
  • Educate customers on alternative banking channels for deposits, withdrawals, and inquiries.
  • Ensure cash counting and verification at start and end of day prior to vaulting.
  • Maintain custody of branch cash, keys, and valuables jointly with the Assistant Branch Manager while ensuring smooth cash department operations.
  • Comply with transaction turnaround times and regulatory requirements related to cashier operations and cash management.
  • Validate customer identity for cash withdrawals and verify cash deposit slip accuracy as per audit standards.
  • Update bank passbooks in line with transactions and prepare cash bundles for currency chest deposits.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate in any field, preferably with a focus on Finance or Commerce.
  • Minimum 1 to 2 years of proven experience handling substantial cash volumes.
  • Experience with financial software modules or ERP systems and consolidating accounting data is essential.

  • Proficient in cash handling and accounting practices.
  • Capable of identifying counterfeit currency notes.
  • Meticulous and organized approach with an emphasis on timely customer service.
  • Awareness of minimizing customer wait times and operating computer systems effectively.

  • Internal: Regional operations team, Regional FCU officer, Service Quality executive.

Additional Information

This is a full-time onsite position based in the branch. The role is graded AM-II within the Branch Banking department. The cashier must adhere strictly to bank policies and regulatory standards to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
