Job description

Position Overview

The role of Cashier, designated as AM-II grade in the Branch Banking department, is a full-time position based at the branch location and reports directly to the Branch Operation Officer. This position is tasked with managing all cash-related transactions and branch-level accounting in compliance with banking norms, including end-of-day reconciliation.

Role Scope

The Cashier handles significant daily cash transactions and maintains CRL limits, coordinates with branch audits, and oversees ATM and vault operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth functioning of branch cash transactions and maintenance through accurate and timely processing.
  • Take full responsibility for managing all cash handling activities such as receipt and processing of cheques, drafts, pay orders, dividend warrants, and similar instruments within authorized limits.
  • Disburse cash for withdrawal requests and accept cash deposits with relevant documentation.
  • Collect loan repayments as per scheduled EMIs and record necessary system entries.
  • Maintain comprehensive registers including inward/outward, petty cash, and asset registers, and forward requisition forms to the Regional Head Office as required.
  • Perform daily cash tallying aligned with transaction books and vouchers and provide reports in the End of Day Branch report.
  • Jointly with the Operations Officer, oversee cash handling and upkeep of the branch vault.
  • Engage with customers during cash transactions to understand their needs, cross-sell products, and inform them about banking services.

Service Excellence

  • Deliver exemplary customer service by addressing queries efficiently and courteously.
  • Promptly escalate customer grievances to appropriate authorities.
  • Explain repayment schedules and provide contact information for customer support during disbursement.
  • Encourage customers to utilize alternative channels for transactions and inquiries.

Operational Duties

  • Count and verify cash at start and end of the day before storing in the vault.
  • Secure branch cash, keys, and valuables in collaboration with the Assistant Branch Manager.
  • Ensure all transaction times meet defined turnaround times.
  • Comply with all banking regulations and policies related to cash management and cashier duties.
  • Verify loan repayment transactions and validate customer identity during cash withdrawals.
  • Check accuracy of cash deposit slips and update bank passbooks accordingly.
  • Prepare cash bundles for deposits to currency chest with necessary documentation.

Learning and Performance

  • Stay updated on Ujjivan’s product offerings, regulatory guidelines, and KYC principles.
  • Complete all mandatory training and certification programs organized by operations.
  • Ensure goal-setting, progress reviews, and appraisals occur within scheduled timelines.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate degree in any discipline, preferably with a focus on Finance or Commerce.
  • 1-2 years experience managing large volumes of cash.
  • Familiarity with financial software modules or ERP systems.
  • Competency in consolidating accounting data.

  • Proficient computer usage with relevant banking software (training provided).
