Job description
Job Overview
This role is for a Capillary Operator, a field expert responsible for managing capillary operations equipment and carrying out specialized technical duties. The operator works under a supervisor's direction and is expected to mentor junior assistants. With supervisor approval, the operator can independently conduct capillary jobs.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections of spooling units, level wind systems, hydraulic components, brakes, and tension control devices.
- Handle mobilization and demobilization activities, including loading, unloading, and arranging equipment.
- Safely convey work strings into and out of wells, avoiding kinks or bird-caging, in line with work string limitations.
- Continuously monitor the work string for any visual flaws or irregular tension and other parameters.
- Accurately complete job documentation such as job tickets, pressure test logs, and operational records.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance on operational machinery.
- Support asset management by assisting in inventory counts.
- Develop and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) procedures on site.
Skills Required
- Expertise in using spooling units, injector heads, and pressure control equipment.
- Understanding and application of high-pressure testing protocols for pressure control equipment.
- Familiarity with well control principles and wellhead pressure handling.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents including job programs, well schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Experience with preventive maintenance of hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic field equipment.
- Precision in technical record keeping and data documentation in the field.
Qualifications
- Education ranging from High School diploma, GED, to Bachelor’s degree.
- At least four years’ practical experience in capillary or coiled tubing operations; slickline exposure is advantageous.
- Certification such as IWCF or IADC WIPC Level 2 preferred; candidates progressing toward certification will be considered.
- Physical fitness to endure shifts of up to 12 hours.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
