Overview
This role encompasses tasks related to cutting, preparing, displaying, and selling various meat products while upholding a positive brand image through courteous and efficient service to customers and team members. All duties align with team and store Standard Operating Procedures, encompassing an understanding of other team member responsibilities. The position supports company core values, initiatives, and enforces compliance with all health, safety, and food safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Cut, prepare, platter, and merchandise beef, pork, lamb, veal, and poultry products.
- Produce specialty meat items such as sausage, oven-ready products, and cured meats.
- Ensure products meet established quality standards.
- Manage and maintain customer sampling programs.
- Monitor stock to minimize spoilage.
- Mentor and provide support to assigned Meat Cutter Trainees.
- Report on time, properly groomed and prepared, attending all scheduled shifts, trainings, and meetings.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, respond promptly to customer needs, and utilize suggestive selling techniques; handle phone calls and pages calmly and courteously.
- Enhance sales through effective preparation, storage, rotation, stocking, and merchandising procedures.
- Adhere to required procedures including weight and measure regulations, sanitation, and safety practices.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work and shopping areas; manage equipment upkeep to company standards.
- Perform assigned opening, mid, and closing duties, ensuring accuracy in signage and pricing.
- Report safety hazards or violations immediately.
- Carry out additional tasks as directed by store, regional, or national leadership.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Solid knowledge of Meat department processes and procedures.
- Proficient meat cutting skills, capable of breaking down products to sub-primal and retail cuts.
- Comprehensive understanding of varied meat and seafood cuts and cooking methods.
- Ability to visually assess product quality and freshness.
- Capability to communicate current market information effectively to customers.
- Strong communication skills and teamwork orientation.
- Clear and respectful dialogue with customers, team members, and vendors.
- Commitment to superior customer service standards in all interactions.
- Ability to follow instructions and manage time and organizational tasks efficiently.

- Understanding and compliance with the company’s quality objectives.
Experience
- Minimum of 14 months retail experience.
- Completion of the company’s Butcher Apprentice Program or an equivalent training course.
- UK-specific exceptions may apply.
Physical and Working Conditions
- Ability to lift weights up to 50 pounds.
- Standing or walking for 6 to 8 hours during an eight-hour shift.
- Manual dexterity with capability for grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
- Frequent movements including bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning agents.
- Work environments including freezing temperatures below 32°F, refrigeration between 32-40°F, and warm conditions above 90°F.
- Work within wet and cold environments.
- Proficiency handling knives and cutting tools safely.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience with tools and equipment such as box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and heavy machinery.

Compensation and Benefits
The hourly wage range for this position is $17.50 to $30.20 based on experience. Eligible full-time and part-time employees receive a variety of benefits including store discounts, paid time off, financial and health wellness programs, and other perks according to company benefit policies, which differ by location and employment type.
