Job description

About the Organisation

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) serves as a national representative body for private associations, companies, and individuals dedicated to fostering a competitive and productive business environment. Engaging with government entities and the political spectrum, PSOJ influences national policies across political, social, and economic domains. The organisation promotes structured dialogues addressing major development priorities and partners with multilateral and bilateral agencies to design and implement programmes supporting sustainable national growth.

Role Overview

The PSOJ seeks a dynamic, commercially savvy, and mission-driven Business Development and Programmes Officer. This role focuses on identifying and advancing opportunities that enhance member value, deepen engagement with stakeholders, and enhance impactful programmes benefiting Jamaica’s private sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Locate, develop, and facilitate strategic initiatives including programmes, partnerships, and business development efforts aligned with PSOJ priorities and member requirements.
  • Investigate and pursue opportunities from donors, grants, sponsorships, multilateral agencies, and private sector sources to amplify programme impact and diversify revenue streams.
  • Create well-crafted concept notes, proposals, sponsorship pitches, donor submissions, partner briefs, reports, and presentations.
  • Manage programme and project execution including scheduling, deliverables, budgeting, timelines, coordination with consultants and partners, and compliance with reporting obligations.
  • Establish and maintain robust relationships with members, sponsors, donors, development partners, private sector contacts, and internal teams.
  • Keep detailed records, opportunity pipelines, partner databases, and documentation to support effective follow-up, decision-making, and accountability.
  • Leverage research, stakeholder insights, and market intelligence to suggest innovative programmes, services, collaborations, and value-added initiatives.
  • Represent PSOJ professionally during meetings, forums, and stakeholder engagements as delegated.

Candidate Profile

  • Inquisitive and opportunity-driven: Able to identify possibilities, ask insightful questions, and connect ideas, people, and resources to generate value.
  • Self-motivated and delivery-focused: Demonstrates ownership and persistence, anticipates next steps, and produces high-quality work proactively.
  • Exceptional communicator and persuasive writer: Capable of composing clear, compelling proposals, reports, presentations, and correspondence for senior partners, funders, and stakeholders.
  • Relationship builder and professional: Easily establishes trust, consistently follows up, and represents the organisation with confidence, discretion, and credibility.
  • Commercially astute and analytical: Understands member needs, market trends, funding priorities, and organisational goals to identify actionable opportunities.
  • Highly organised and execution-oriented: Manages numerous priorities, monitors details, coordinates stakeholders, and ensures timely programme advancement.
  • Passionate about making a positive impact: Brings commitment, integrity, and energy to projects that support national development and private sector leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Development Studies, Economics, International Relations, Marketing, Public Policy, Project Management, or related fields.
  • A minimum of three to five years in programme coordination, business development, partnership development, resource mobilisation, grants, sponsorships, or stakeholder engagement roles.
  • Proficient proposal writing abilities including concept notes, grant applications, sponsorship proposals, business cases, donor reports, and executive presentations.
  • Knowledge of project and programme management fundamentals such as coordination, budgeting, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and stakeholder relations.
  • Strong research, analytical, organisational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite; experience with databases, CRM or contact management systems, project tracking software, or digital collaboration tools is advantageous.
  • Understanding of Jamaica’s private sector dynamics, development priorities, business support ecosystem, donor and multilateral landscapes, or public-private partnerships is a plus.
