Building Maintenance Technician

Job Overview

As a Building Maintenance Technician at Delta Hotels by Marriott Kingston Waterfront, you will undertake varied routine to intermediate maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the hotel’s facilities, grounds, and equipment remain in excellent condition. Your primary focus will be promptly addressing maintenance issues, with particular attention to guest-related concerns, to support seamless hotel operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct preventative maintenance activities on hotel infrastructure, grounds, and specific equipment.
• Diagnose plumbing issues and implement effective repair strategies including replacement of fixtures, faucets, valves, and washers.
• Maintain PTAC (Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner) units by ensuring proper function and replacing or cleaning filters when necessary.
• Perform minor electrical tasks such as installing or repairing outlets, switches, receptacles, and changing light bulbs.
• Handle a broad range of general repairs including doors, door closers, ceiling and wall patching, plastering, drywall repair, caulking, and grout application.
• Assemble and repair furniture, install shelving, bulletin boards, and floor or ceiling tiles as needed.
• Prepare surfaces and apply painting to walls, cabinets, doors, and parking lot stripes.
• Assist with unloading furniture and supplies to support hotel operations.
• Monitor and adjust pool chemical levels, document chemical usage, vacuum pool bottoms, and maintain filter baskets daily.
• Operate and maintain chemical control devices such as Brominators and Acid Barrels in the mechanical room.
• Support vehicle parking management during peak occupancy or events as directed by the Front Desk.
• Assist emergency situations by coordinating with external contractors.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of workplace and storage areas; ensure tools are clean, stored properly, and in safe working order.
• Report any irregular situations to management and provide shift documentation via email communication.
• Inspect and replenish first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and scent programs monthly with appropriate record keeping.
• Manage exterior cleanliness by hosing down parking areas, removing slush and snow, and cleaning windows.
• Ensure that main driveways and exits remain clear of snow and ice with timely salting.
• Maintain walkways including graffiti removal, painting, and lighting repairs.

Candidate Profile

• Completion of secondary education or equivalent is required.
• Post-secondary training, certifications, or licenses in maintenance-related fields are desirable.
• Minimum one year of experience in building maintenance or related roles.
• Working knowledge across plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, and carpentry disciplines.
• Familiarity with safe operation of hand and power tools.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound decision-making and take initiative with minimal supervision.
• Strong teamwork skills with a willingness to learn and adapt.
• Physical capability to lift heavy objects as job requirements demand.
• Effective communication skills within a diverse team setting.
• Ability to collaborate well in multicultural environments involving coworkers, management, and guests.
• Availability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
