Job description
Position Overview
This full-time role is based at Spring Creek High School in Elko, Nevada, with a work calendar encompassing 261 days annually. The Building Custodian operates under supervision to maintain cleanliness and upkeep in the assigned school facilities of the Elko County School District.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning and shampooing of rugs and carpets.
- Maintain floors through vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, polishing, and scrubbing methods.
- Dust, clean, and polish woodwork, furniture, glass surfaces, and similar items.
- Refill and service soap dispensers, towel boxes, and comparable containers.
- Empty and clean wastepaper baskets and refuse containers regularly.
- Clean chalkboards, trays, and erasers efficiently.
- Rearrange and adjust furniture including chairs, desks, tables, supplies, and equipment as required.
- Conduct floor maintenance such as stripping, sealing, and waxing.
- Remove spots and graffiti from multiple surfaces including floors, walls, woodwork, furniture, carpets, and fixtures.
- Wash and scrub walls, bathroom fixtures, windows, drinking fountains, drains, lighting fixtures, and painted surfaces.
- Perform snow removal and apply sanding on walks, driveways, parking lots, and steps when necessary.
- Operate equipment such as power sweepers and polishers.
- Undertake groundskeeping tasks including grass cutting, tree and lawn trimming, and fertilization to ensure safe and appealing grounds.
- Assist in moving, assembling, or disassembling furniture or equipment and support other craft personnel in emergencies or as needed.
- Adhere to established safety protocols and standards.
- Fulfill additional related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Completion of high school or an equivalent credential (e.g., GED, technical or trade school certification, foreign equivalency).
- Prior custodial experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Capability to handle physical work including exerting force up to 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently, and 10-20 pounds constantly.
- Able to perform frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and manual dexterity tasks.
- Possess adequate auditory and verbal communication skills.
- Occasional ability to climb, balance, crouch, and crawl as required.
- Visual acuity including near and far focus, depth perception, and color recognition on an occasional basis.
- Comfortable working in both climate-controlled indoor spaces and variable outdoor weather conditions ranging from mild to extreme temperatures.
- Tolerance for exposure to moderate to loud noise frequently during work.
- Prepared to handle furniture, playground or office equipment, exposure to communicable diseases, chemicals pertinent to the role, and operation of power or hand tools and machinery.
Work Conditions & Physical Demands
The position involves medium to heavy physical activity including lifting, moving, and manual labor tasks with safety and health guidelines to be strictly followed.
