Broadcast Engineering Manager

About the Role

Join the team responsible for keeping New Zealand's biggest news stories live and accessible every day. As Broadcast Engineering Manager, you will oversee the technical integrity of our expanding network and broadcasting systems supporting the Stuff and ThreeNews brands. This hands-on position requires troubleshooting complex technical challenges, managing projects from initial planning to final commissioning, and fostering strong collaborations with vendors and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate system upgrades, service changes, and validation efforts with vendors such as VizRT, Avid, Grass Valley, and Ross
• Lead technical projects through all phases—from scoping and design to delivery, testing, and commissioning
• Establish and maintain solid relationships with vendors and stakeholders, ensuring prompt resolution of issues and adherence to service levels
• Develop and implement best practices, including technical documentation, engineering diagrams, and procedural standards to elevate team performance
• Proactively identify network risks and recommend effective solutions before problems arise
• Advocate for and manage modern broadcast platforms including AWS-based technologies, software-defined networking (SDN), and cloud infrastructure (IaaS/PaaS)

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Extensive experience with broadcast systems and IT infrastructure, especially familiarity with VizRT, Avid, Grass Valley, or Ross platforms
• Practical knowledge of AWS-based broadcast technologies and software-defined networking concepts
• Proven ability to serve as the technical lead on projects from concept through completion
• Demonstrated success managing vendor relationships and ensuring compliance with contracted service levels
• Strong analytical capabilities with the confidence to effectively communicate across organizational levels
• Possession of a tertiary qualification in Engineering, Computer Science, Broadcast Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
