Overview

The Imaging Department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is currently seeking Band 5 Radiographers to join their dynamic and welcoming team at Solihull Hospital. These roles offer opportunities for qualified, HCPC-registered radiographers, especially those with UK/NHS experience, including recent graduates or professionals seeking a new challenge. The position allows development and consolidation of clinical skills across a broad range of General Imaging services, including Minor Injuries/Urgent Care Centre, GP and inpatient X-rays, theatre imaging, and potential training in bone densitometry during rotations.

The Trust supports professional growth through a structured preceptorship programme designed to equip radiographers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to excel and provides continuous professional development and student supervision opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional, accurate imaging services to patients within a safe clinical setting.
  • Work flexibly across weekdays, weekends, nights, and Bank Holidays, operating within a 7-day week roster.
  • Perform radiographic examinations, seeking guidance as needed, while collaborating effectively within the imaging team to deliver compassionate care.
  • Evaluate personal workload and patient capability to cooperate during procedures.
  • Maintain clear, precise communication with patients and colleagues, prioritizing patient-centered care.
  • Adhere strictly to protocols and regulatory standards including IRR2017 and IRMER2017.
  • Take responsibility for individual professional practice, keeping accurate records and pursuing continuous professional development to enhance service quality.
  • Participate in the education and supervision of student radiographers and assistant practitioners.
  • Operate imaging equipment safely and competently, report faults promptly, conduct daily safety checks, and contribute to quality assurance programmes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential: BSc Diagnostic Radiography or Diploma of the College of Radiographers (DCR) with HCPC registration.
  • Up-to-date professional and technical knowledge relevant to radiography.
  • Awareness of contemporary NHS priorities and healthcare environment.
  • Desirable: Broad practical experience in clinical radiography.

  • This permanent position is aligned with the Agenda for Change Band 5 salary scale, ranging from £32,073 to £39,043 annually.
  • The role requires compliance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and successful Disclosure and Barring Service checks.
