Backend Software Engineer

Position Overview

We seek an experienced backend engineer passionate about system design and development. You will collaborate with a high-caliber engineering team to operate current systems and build new ones addressing our unique challenges. This role allows you to design, develop, and maintain services and frameworks fundamental to Asana's platform.

Work Location & Schedule

This role is primarily office-based in Reykjavík with a hybrid schedule: standard office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Employees generally work from home on Wednesdays. Remote work on Fridays varies depending on job duties and team arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and refine frameworks influencing all facets of the Asana product.
• Collaborate closely with other engineering teams to accelerate development and meet company objectives.
• Investigate complex systems to identify problems and improvement opportunities.
• Promote and model high standards of code quality and best practices.
• Develop new APIs balancing usability with robust support for Asana’s complex web application.
• Write clean, maintainable code, improving existing codebases.
• Engage in continuous learning opportunities to enhance your skills and growth.
• Work as part of a world-class engineering team to create intuitive new features.

Candidate Profile

• At least 3 years of backend engineering experience working with extensive and well-maintained production codebases.
• Capable of quickly learning and transitioning across diverse and complex codebases.
• Exhibits sound autonomous judgment to balance speed with quality for maintainable software.
• Dedicated to establishing and advocating software engineering excellence.
• Familiarity with React, GraphQL, and preferably TypeScript.
• Seeks a supportive environment fostering team growth and development.
• Curious about AI tools and emerging technologies, eager to adopt them to boost productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.

Compensation and Benefits

The monthly base salary range for this position is approximately 1,000,000 to 1,200,000 ISK, dependent on market factors and individual qualifications assessed during hiring. Additional compensation could include equity, incentives (for sales roles), and benefits.
