Backend Engineer

About the Role

Join an international backend team as a Backend Engineer, reporting to the regional technology lead. Your key duties will include promptly diagnosing and resolving production incidents, generating data queries and analysis, and contributing to the design and implementation of backend modules for the application. This position demands strong fundamentals in backend development, excellent data and debugging expertise, and solid operational abilities. The balance of responsibilities will adapt according to changing business priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate production issues by utilizing logs, monitoring tools, tracing, and data backtracking to quickly identify root causes of errors, user feedback, and data irregularities; implement fixes and prepare detailed postmortem documentation.
• Design and develop application backend modules using Java, Spring Boot, MySQL, and Redis, including API creation, database structuring, and upkeep of existing codebases.
• Assist with data querying and analysis requests ensuring compliance with the company's data classification and access policies, providing accurate and reproducible outcomes to product, operations, and customer service teams.
• Conduct routine release activities, including deployments, rollbacks, and configuration adjustments under the guidance of the regional lead; maintain monitoring and alerting systems and actively participate in incident response.
• Develop tooling and automation solutions such as SQL templates, runbooks, and self-service utilities to minimize repetitive tasks.
• Engage in code reviews, implement automated testing, and support release protocols to ensure high code quality and production environment stability.

Qualifications & Skills

• Holder of a bachelor's degree or higher, ideally in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
• Minimum four years of professional experience in Java backend development.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot frameworks, capable of independently designing modules, developing APIs, and maintaining code; familiarity with Spring Cloud is a plus.
• Advanced knowledge of MySQL including complex multi-table joins, aggregations, window functions, and a good understanding of indexing and query execution plans.
• Experience with Redis and understanding of message queue systems like Kafka and RocketMQ.
• Hands-on experience in production troubleshooting, adept at working with logs, tracing application flows to root causes, and leading resolution efforts.

• Highly meticulous and detail-focused with a commitment to delivering precise, reproducible results and thorough investigation documentation.

DevOps Competencies

• Practical knowledge of AWS basic services including EC2, RDS, ElastiCache, S3, and IAM; capable of checking resource status and interpreting logs.
• Competent in Docker containerization, with skills to deploy, rollback, and examine container logs and pod status in Kubernetes environments.
• Ability to analyze monitoring dashboards and logs using tools such as Grafana and ELK stack and interpret standard performance metrics.
• Experience configuring and utilizing CI/CD pipelines adhering to team-defined standards.

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to managing high-traffic production environments and enhancing system stability.
• Experience handling customer complaints or support ticket triage.
• Familiarity with multi-region products and cross-time zone teamwork.
