Backend Engineer

About the Role

Contribute to the development and upkeep of backend infrastructures supporting Trulyyy's international operations in Singapore and worldwide markets. This role involves enabling agile development and scalable growth for overseas business activities. You will engage in selecting technologies and designing the architecture for core server-side components, creating high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed systems that maintain stability, scalability, and low latency under conditions of high concurrency and cross-regional use. Collaborate effectively across globally dispersed teams including product managers, operations, frontend and backend developers, and quality assurance specialists to deliver international projects and continuously enhance system performance.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain backend systems tailored for Trulyyy’s global business, supporting scalable and efficient foreign market expansions.
• Participate in key decisions on technology stacks and design architectural blueprints for backend modules aiming to build distributed, high-availability, and high-performance systems capable of handling expansive concurrent demand.
• Work closely with internationally distributed multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth project delivery and ongoing operational improvements.

Candidate Qualifications

• Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related discipline with firm fundamental knowledge.
• Have more than two years of backend development experience; preference given to those with exposure to international or user-facing overseas products.

Skills and Expertise Required

• Proficient in Java or Go programming languages, demonstrating high-quality code writing with well-structured design patterns that enhance engineering productivity and ease system maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of databases and messaging systems including MySQL, Redis, RocketMQ or Kafka, and search technologies like ElasticSearch, with an understanding of their core concepts and usage contexts. Contributions to open-source projects add value.
• In-depth understanding of distributed system architectures, including microservices frameworks and service governance mechanisms such as service discovery, configuration management, routing, monitoring, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery strategies. Experience designing high-concurrency systems and optimizing performance is advantageous.
• Exhibits strong ownership, business acumen, and the ability to manage complex backend services independently. Demonstrates excellent skills in cross-team and cross-geography collaboration, thriving in a fast-moving, global team environment.
• Effective in English communication—both written and verbal—for smooth collaboration with global counterparts.
