Role Overview

As a Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and sustaining the backend services that facilitate visa applications internationally. Your work will involve designing Python-based APIs and services that integrate government portals, payment systems, document workflows, and AI-driven modules, ensuring they remain performant, dependable, and scalable as the platform expands globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop core backend components using Python frameworks to support applications, payments, document management, and order tracking across 127 countries.
• Build resilient integrations with external entities such as government portals, embassies, payment gateways, addressing challenges like retries, rate limiting, unstable endpoints, and evolving integration rules.
• Design scalable data architectures, asynchronous processing workflows, and queuing systems capable of handling peak demand periods and volume fluctuations.
• Collaborate with the AI team to deploy and maintain AI-powered agents and document intelligence within reliable backend services that emphasize observability and robustness.
• Take full ownership of systems from design through production deployment, including monitoring, alerting, incident management, testing, and ensuring security compliance, particularly given sensitive handling of passports and financial records.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Possesses between 2 to 5 years of experience in backend software engineering, specifically in managing production-grade systems at significant scale.
• Highly proficient in Python and experienced with frameworks like FastAPI, Django, or Flask for shipping production services.
• Strong understanding of databases and distributed systems, with hands-on experience using PostgreSQL, Redis, message queues such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or Celery, caching mechanisms, and asynchronous processing techniques.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and observability tools.
• Experience or exposure to browser automation (Playwright, Selenium), integrating large language model APIs, or working in regulated industries like fintech or travel is advantageous.
