Job description
Position Overview
This role as an Automotive Apprentice offers a hands-on learning opportunity, combining practical experience with formal trade qualification work. You will collaborate closely with seasoned technicians to service, maintain, and repair varied military vehicles and vital equipment supporting New Zealand Defence Force missions.
Responsibilities
- Assist skilled technicians in vehicle servicing, maintenance, and repairs.
- Support repairs ensuring compliance with Warrant of Fitness (WOF), Certificate of Fitness (COF), safety, and operational standards.
- Develop technical expertise through structured on-the-job training.
- Learn diagnostic and fault-finding procedures.
- Conduct vehicle inspections under supervision.
- Maintain cleanliness and order of tools, equipment, and the workshop environment.
Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of pre-trade technical training or relevant trade-related work experience is essential.
- Possession of NCEA Level 1 qualification.
- Hold a full Class 1 motor vehicle driver’s licence.
- Self-driven, eager to learn, and enthusiastic about the trade.
- Strong dedication and willingness to acquire new skills.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain New Zealand Security Clearance.
