Associate – Corporate

Role Overview

We are seeking a driven Associate to join our Corporate practice based in Auckland. This position presents an excellent opportunity to advance your legal career by advising on diverse corporate transactions and providing commercial legal counsel to a prominent international and domestic clientele. You will collaborate closely with senior attorneys and partners, progressively taking responsibility for critical segments of client engagements while honing your technical and commercial skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Team Environment

The Corporate team at DLA Piper is renowned for handling complex, cross-border legal matters. You will be a part of a close-knit team of seven members supporting three partners, with additional responsibilities in mentoring junior lawyers. The wider Corporate division includes seven partners and roughly thirty lawyers across Auckland and Wellington, offering collaboration opportunities with global offices. This team tackles sophisticated, influential cases that inspire professional growth and leadership in a cooperative setting.

Candidate Profile

• Experience within New Zealand's top-tier or international law firms is preferred.
• A solid foundation in corporate law, transactional matters, or project work.
• The capability to independently manage specific aspects of legal cases with growing autonomy.
• Strong client communication skills and the ability to oversee daily interactions.
• Excellent organisational abilities to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving workplace.
• A proactive, cooperative, and commercially oriented mindset that embraces ownership, balanced with seeking guidance as needed.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Familiarity with overseas investment legislation and regulatory approval processes.
• Experience collaborating with international clients.
• An interest in sectors such as energy, renewable resources, natural resources, or forestry.
